Band: Tunnel of Love
From: Muskegon, Michigan
Their formation story:
(Brett Dierolf, vocals): "We started Tunnel of Love around 2022. The band actually began as a side project. Three of us (myself along with Erik Crawford - drums and Zach Leipham - bass) were playing in a more straightforward hardcore band call Prison Suicide but we wanted to do something faster and more aggressive.
"We recruited our friend Jon Barefoot from the band Bitter Truth on guitar and started writing the demo. Prison Suicide broke up shortly after the demo came out which lead us to take ToL a little more seriously. We added our friend Ramon Silguero on second guitar and started writing and playing out way more.
Their sound in their own words:
"We always say it's 'hardcore violence.' Straightforward hardcore with power violence elements thrown in. We'll have a part that sounds almost like Youth of Today that ends in an Infest style blast beat."
Latest release info:
"We just released our first full-length cassette, Quest for Destruction, on Setterwind Records last month. This is our first release since 2022. More importantly, it's our first record with our new guitarists Jeremy McClary and Ramon Sliguero. They both bring a new raw energy and sound to the band that really pushed us forward.
"Most of the album was recorded in Jeremy's home studio throughout this past year. It's 11 tracks of fast, stompy, blasting hardcore. We were also honored to have some incredible guest features on this record including Antonio Marquez from SPINE and Dominic Hart from the Sissy Boys. They both killed it on their tracks."
Future plans:
"We've already started writing new material. I think we're hoping to have another release out by the end of the year. We're also planning some weekend runs in the midwest this summer and we're confirmed for some cool stuff in the fall that has yet to be announced."
What other bands from their region should we check out?
"There's tons of great stuff from Michigan to check out. I'm sure I'm missing a lot: Snakeout, Distants, The Sissy Boys, Drop Rate, Moral Pollution, Bad Beat, Bitter Truth, Pink Pout, Concuss, Attrition Cult, Wounded Touch, Stretched Thin, Love Fool, Cemetery Girl and many more."
Quest for Destruction is available on cassette via Setterwind Records.
