Band: Final Thread
From: Greenville, South Carolina
Their formation story:
"In mid-2023, Justin (vocals) started writing and demoing out some riffs and sending his ideas to the people in Greenville he wanted to collaborate with. That ultimately led to us throwing ideas in a group chat and writing as a collective piece – Justin on vocals, Brett on drums, Josh on bass, Mike and Dawson on guitars.
"The goal has always been to write interesting music with talented people who we love being around, sharing that music with our growing scene, and playing shows with cool bands – all in the limited amount of free time we have. The Greenville hardcore scene has a lot of momentum right now, so the timing of it all has been great."
Their sound in their own words:
"We’re sort of a combination of all the things we loved about early metalcore and the heaviness you hear in modern hardcore and heavy music in general. We decided not to lock ourselves into a specific genre or subgenre of heavy music since we have such a wide range of styles that we enjoy. A good riff stands out, no matter the genre, and we like to explore wherever our riffs and weird sounds take us.
"We get really excited about creating heavy mosh music with electronic programming and samples intertwined. You might hear industrial undertones in one song, thrash in another, hardcore in the next breakdown, metalcore in the bridge – it keeps it interesting. We also understand that sometimes the answer really is to just slam it out, so we try to keep it fresh."
Latest release info:
"We just dropped our debut EP titled Motions on August 13th. Sonically, it’s fast, crushing, sleek, and relentless. Lyrically, we explore a few different themes including tough family dynamics, poverty in a capitalistic society, the threat of artificial intelligence, and even the journey of becoming a father. We have a couple of guest spots too — Logan Welch (Razortail) and David Glover (Laid Out, Rat Poison, Hell Hole) show up and really set it off on a couple tracks.
"It’s a real roller coaster that we think listeners will enjoy – experience the EP on headphones if you can. We tracked the drums at Greenbriar Studios in Greenville, SC and did everything else ourselves. Justin did the mixing and production, and Josh did the cover art. Real DIY shit that we’re proud to call our first release."
Future plans:
"We have a few really cool shows lined up this Fall – we’re playing with Hoods and Southpaw FLHC in Charlotte, NC on 9/15/24, then we have back-to-back openers for Madball and Enforced on 9/19/24 in Greenville, SC and 9/20/24 in Columbia, SC Plus a couple more that we can't quite talk about yet, but all really great lineups.
"Beyond that we’re hoping to sell some shirts, write a few new songs, and have a lot of fun hanging out with other bands and experiencing different scenes."
What other bands from their region should we check out?
"We strongly advise checking out A Knife in the Dark, Divine Right, Reviler, Brass Tongue, Laid Out, and Razortail. Carolina Hardcore forever."
