Band: Drop Rate
From: Lansing, Michigan

Their formation story:
(Jacob Weston, vocals): "Drop Rate started with just random riffs I was writing during Covid lockdown. At the time, I had no intention for this to be a real band. Shortly after restrictions lightened up I reached to Nate about demoing the ideas just to have them for fun.

"From there, Luke hopped in on bass and Josh joined on drums and we finished out our first EP building off the lockdown riffs and started playing shows. After that, we got a better idea of the full bands dynamic and instantly started writing EP2."

Their sound in their own styles:
"We all pull from different areas of hardcore and punk with members that span over a decade in age but our main focus is to write fun hardcore songs. The initial concept was inspired by Snapcase, Bane, and all things Walter Schreifels."

Latest release info:
"Cheap Fantasy is our second EP and the first that was written entirely with the finalized line up. We wanted to expand on our sound with a bit more aggression and energy. We worked with our friend Newselph to flip our stems to make interludes and build on what we had established on our first EP, Recalibrate.

"We brought in our friends Jimmy Lawson (Bad Beat, Edgemen Printing, etc.) and Brett Dierolf (Snakeout, Tunnel of Love) to make the songs really pop."

Future plans:
"We have a few shows lined up in Michigan to start the year and we’re hoping to get out and around the Midwest a little more as it starts warming up. We have two new songs in the works and are looking to keep releasing music as consistently as possible."

What other bands from their region should we check out?
"Moral Pollution, Snakeout, Big Life, Armor Class, Nuff Said, Bitter Truth, Big Deal, Tunnel of Love, Wounded Touch, Field Note, Bad Beat."

Cheap Fantasy is available on vinyl via Setterwind Records.
