Band: BFD
From: Niagara Falls, Ontario
Their formation story:
(Will, vocals): "BFD formed in July of 2023 - we play, and have played, together in several bands but we're always messing around with new riffs and ideas. Really the goal with the demo and now our EP was to just write hardcore songs the way we want to hear them.
"As for the name, it stands for whatever you want it to - we just think it sounds cool. We're very fortunate that right now southern Ontario (Canada) has a really strong scene with plenty of awesome bands and new people showing up that keep pushing us to write new material, introduce people to some older classics and keep Niagara Hardcore alive."
Their sound in their own words:
"Just straight-up no frills hardcore punk. Someone described it as 'meat and potatoes' and I don't necessarily see it as a criticism. Ultimately, we don't want to be stuck in the past or reflecting on the 'glory days' of hardcore, but we do love the traditional style and songwriting that the genre was built upon.
"I would say the influences are definitely rooted in NYHC: Where the Wild Things Are comp, Underdog, Agnostic Front, Dynamo, Inside Out NY - but we're not beholden to one style. If your band has 'destructive verb' + 'direction' for the name, then we probably like it."
Latest release info:
"Brothers for Decades is out now on a new label from Toronto/Detroit called Total Supply Music | Total Supply and I'm excited about everything that's been put out there this year. With the new tracks we wanted to strike a balance between old school, big-sounding recordings that are rough around the edges and something that is slightly more produced, I think we achieved that.
"I'm really happy with how it turned out and I feel like these tracks are a natural progression from the quick and dirty approach we took to the demo songs."
Future plans:
"We're planning to have the 7" in hand by January/February and then we'll organize a local record release show with some gigs around that. Hopefully, we'll visit a few places we haven't been and play with some of the great bands that have been popping up all over North America in 2024."
What other bands from their region should we check out?
"There's far too many to list but I think you have to check out Terminator, Reality Denied, Pluto's Kiss, and Justify for starters. If you want to play Niagara, or hear more cool shit from our area, check Mount Vile or Niagara HC on Instagram - we'd be happy to have more bands come through to see what's cookin' up here."
Brothers for Decades 7" is up for pre-order via Total Supply.
