Featuring former members of nu-metal outfits Ultraspank, Godsmack, and Snot, Lo-Pro was never going to win any cool points with the heavy metal gatekeepers. But if you're in search of some angsty hard rock jams, Lo-Pro's eponymous debut album from 2003 delivers the goods. Produced by Staind's Aaron Lewis and Don Gilmore (Lit, Linkin Park), the album didn't perform well commercially, but it did produce a go-to jam in "Sunday."
The only official single released from Lo-Pro, "Sunday" reached the Top 30 in both the Billboard Mainstream Rock Tracks and the Billboard Modern Rock Tracks charts. I first heard it when my friend, Tim Dralle, played it in the office we shared some years back. The song's big chorus and moody guitars hooked me immediately. Lewis and Gilmore give the track a radio-ready sheen that wasn't far removed from the stuff station programmers loved at the time.
"Why's it always feel like Sunday," sings Pete Murray at the end of the chorus section, coming off like a nu-metal Morrissey in the process. So good.
