Band: Bitter Peace
From: Sydney, Australia
Their formation story:
(Nathaniel, drums): "A couple of bored 30+ year olds feeling the urge to play music again post-COVID. It had been at least 10 years since any of us were actively playing in original projects together. Matt K (vocals) and myself had been speaking for at least a year since 2021 about the possibility of starting a new project. Finding others who were committed was the next step.
"Having played in numerous bands previously with, most notably Silverback, we called on Mitch (guitar) and Matt H (guitar). Then we reached out to Blake (bass) from Two Faced to complete the lineup. After a few name ideas thrown around, we settled on Bitter Peace. Shout out to SLAYERRRRR. And that's when Bitter Peace was formed in early 2023."
Their sound in their own words:
"Straight up in-your-face hardcore. Thrashy at times, melodic at others.
"Our main influences and bands we grew up listening to would have to be Terror, Hatebreed, Throwdown, Trapped Under Ice, No Warning, Antagonist A.D., and The Ghost Inside. Plus, the local bands who paved the way for Australian hardcore in the late 2000s: Carpathian, Parkway Drive, Her Nightmare, No Apologies, Mindsnare, Relentless, Miles Away, From the Ruins, etc."
Latest release info:
"As 4 of us have already played together in other bands previously, we had a bunch of material that went un-used and never saw the light of day. 'Sharks' is an old song from the Cut Loose days (2007) that we touched up slightly and re-recorded for this demo. This was always a song that had potential and i wanted to re-hash and record properly.
"The other two songs ('Dead to Me' and 'Living Hell') are brand new and all 5 of us have had an equal contribution in writing these tracks. We all have our own personal touch on these songs. Colin from Curses was super kind to track guest vocals on 'Living Hell' and gives the track an extra kick with the contrast in vocals to Matt. Super happy with how the demo turned out. But now we turn our attention to writing a proper EP!"
Future plans:
"We've been around the scene for a long time and know that you just have to have fun and take any opportunities that come your way. We're all on the wrong side of 30, so immediate plans will just be to play as many shows as we can, spread our music to as many ears as possible and enjoy ourselves at the same time.
"We are also now navigating our way through being in a band in the new social media age too. 15 years ago you would start a MySpace page, hand out demos and word of mouth was vital. Once the demo gets released, we are hoping to get on a few shows, record some new tracks and just see where this journey takes us. No expectations, just living in the moment and having a bit of fun."
What other bands from their region should we check out?
"The local Sydney hardcore scene is so healthy and thriving now and so many great local bands emerging. Napalm, Two Faced, and Curses are all great friends of ours and definitely worth checking out too! Also, a small up and coming band called SPEED!"
