Song of the Day

Deadwitch, “Arm's Length” (2018)

Deadwitch appeared in my inbox courtesy of the band's bassist, Andrew Legg. I'm glad it did because this Portland-based power violence trio are definitely up my alley.

Formed in 2016, Deadwitch cite such groups as Mind Eraser and Iron Lung as prime influences, and it's clear when you hear their recently released eponymous full-length. This is no-nonsense hardcore with sudden bursts of speed and sludgy parts for days. "Arm's Length" comes in under the minute mark (shocker!) and rips and tears with an almost Oi!-ish section that lends the attack a strange sense of hookiness. The rest of the album doesn't dissapoint and if '90s power violence is in your wheelhouse, you will be beyond satisified.

Deadwitch is available digitally via the trio's Bandcamp page. No Home Records will be issuing the album on vinyl in the coming months.
