New Hardcore Band Spotlight: Suicide Eyes

Band: Suicide Eyes
From: Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

Their formation story:
(Ben Stuckey, vocals): "I always thought hardcore kids needed their own breakup songs. And I began writing lyrics that were more emotional and personal. I had some of the songs for Suicide Eyes written for years but I had just been too busy with other projects to get a band together and get everything recorded.

"When I was first writing the songs I got really tired of seeing certain bands saying 'FFO' and then sounding nothing like the bands they listed. I wanted to pay homage to a style of hardcore I had always really loved and felt like was being forgotten by the current wave.

"Once I had time I reached out to kids who I knew were solid and either weren’t in any bands, or at least weren’t in any super active bands, taught them the songs, and from there we’ve been playing as much as we can."

Their sound in their own words:
"We definitely wear our hearts on our sleeves. The band name being an American Nightmare reference and the Horror Show cover featured on the demo are both meant to show people what the two main influences were.

"American Nightmare is obviously the best to ever do this style and they were the original inspiration but Horror Show being a Philly band has always held a special place in my heart.

"Apart from the two main influences, Suicide Eyes definitely goes for the post-youth crew style of 2000s hardcore, stuff like Panic, Carry On, and Count Me Out.

Latest release info:
"The demo is 4 original songs and a cover out on Rebirth Records. Bob Wilson of Rebirth was super cool about everything and agreed to put the band out just based on the concept I had. The songs kind of go back and forth between breakup songs and tracks for the general feeling of being an outcast. Something everyone should be able to relate to."

Future plans:
"In the coming months, we will be doing a North East weekend 5/9-5/11 with Fools Game, Negative Force, and Quick to Judge. We will also be playing the Soulless record release in Connecticut on 6/16. We will be playing a tour kickoff show for Fightback in Baltimore on 6/26.

"In July we will be doing a weekend with Can’t Lose and Quick to Judge 7/17-7/20 starting in Richmond, Virginia and ending in Syracuse, NY.
And on August 9th we will be opening up for the second day of This Is Hardcore Fest.

"I already have an LP fully written and once these shows are completed we will work on getting that recorded."

What other bands from their region should we check out?
"I would say every band on Rebirth Records; locally that’s False Salvation, Face the Pain, Scarab, Fightback. Chemical Fix was a big part of me coming to love this style of music. Dead On Your feet, and Minefield are both awesome local bands. And from the Lehigh Valley I can’t forget Pain Strikes, Controller, and Cheated."

Demo 2025 is available on cassette via Rebirth Records.
