Band: Self Arrest
From: Vancouver, British Columbia

Their formation story:
(Tom, vocals): "A few years back I posted in the Vancouver hardcore group looking for people to start a band that would cause the Melnick Brothers to file a lawsuit, nobody bit at it but Cooper (guitar) reached out with a 'Hey I`m not up for that but how about this….' and we kickstarted the idea of starting something influenced by early '00s Boston.

"It's a relatively small scene in Vancouver so people who are into Painkiller Records and those 03/04 Lockin Out releases are as rare as a large Mental shirt on depop - the rest of the band fell into place. Cooper wrote the demo and me and Marc (guitar) chirped in with some ideas. Taylor (drums) and TJ (bass) joined shortly after and here we are…."

Their sound in their own words:
"We have a pretty eclectic taste between us but there are some things we collectively fuck with - Stop and Think, Step Forward, Insted, 86 Mentality, Frostbite, and basically the entire Moshers Delight catalog and the City Limits comp, front to back."

Latest release info:
"This is our first demo, it was written and recorded before we had a full lineup or a jam space. The music was nearly all recorded in Cooper`s kitchen with the help of a couple of scabs for bass and drums (shout out Lewis and Dave). The demo was mixed and mastered by Will Killingsworth who has been involved in a lot of our favourite releases so that was cool.

"Once we got the master back we shared it with the Total Supply guys and were stoked when they offered to put it out. TS are pumping out the jams at the moment, if you`re sleeping on them, don`t."

Future plans:
"We`re currently writing for something new, feels good to be writing as a complete band now and looking forward to knocking out another release or two this year. We`re looking to play out more and hopefully get out east and down to the States - hit us up if there's anything we can jump on."

What other bands from their region should we check out?
"Bootlicker, Smuther, Chopping Block, Madness Cartel, and we are claiming Meantime and Direct Order. Not that they need it but Punitive Damage too, who are TJ`s other band, Worthy shout out to End Times who are a new band out of Wales where I`m originally from. All these bands go hard, and if you haven't already go check out the Total Supply, Slow Death, and 11pm rosters.

"Al Barile RIP. Hardcore lives."
