Band: Goroh
From: Columbus, Ohio

Their formation story:
(Curran Alvarez, guitar): "Goroh formed in early 2023. I had taken 10 years off of playing music to get my shit together, got married, started a family and pursued a completely different career. During the 2020 COVID lockdown, I was really frustrated with the state of the world and decided to get my guitar back out and started writing. The ideas started really flowing out of me.

"After I had a few songs written, I met some new friends in Columbus, Ohio, where we recently had moved to, that played and they were looking to play in a band. I also reached out to some old friends that my last band used to play with back in 2010-2013. I knew they were familiar with playing music up the same vein of what I had been writing.

"Rob (our vocalist) and I started working together after not seeing each other in over a decade and things started to really mesh together well. We found the rest of the members a few months later and started playing local shows! Shortly after that we recorded our first single, 'Room of Mirrors,' and hit the ground running jumping on as many shows as we could get.

"We ended up opening for Northlane and Make Them Suffer for our third show. We played a ton of awesome local shows and since then we have played with many other awesome professional acts as well. Gideon, Orthodox, and Heavy//Hitter!"

Their sound in their own words:
"'Heavy.' It’s hard to put it in a box with how many different influences we have had growing up being in the scene so long. I had always played metalcore / deathcore but really wanted to play hardcore this time around.

"This was my attempt at writing hardcore influenced music. It ended up not sounding hardcore at all [laughs], but it became something I really enjoy playing and am happy with. We are heavily inspired by the hardcore community for our live show but our roots are in metal.

"Some of our influences are The Acacia Strain, Thrown, Knocked Loose, Bodysnatcher, and Kublai Khan TX."

Latest release info:
"We just released our debut self-titled EP. It has 5 songs on it; two were singles we released prior and it also includes three new songs on it. It was recorded and written over the last few years. As I mentioned prior, some of the riffs came from lockdown, others came when my mom passed away, others came when we all got together and started throwing ideas at each other. it really became something special that I am proud of."

Future plans:
"We are hitting the studio again here soon to work on more new music, continuing to hit shows hard, making friends/connections and working our way up to our first tour. We would love to start playing out of state more."

What other bands from their region should we check out?
"Denihilist, Violent Nature, 2amheadshots, Samarra, 89 Letters, Bolster, Darling Decay, and Price2Pay, just to name a few!"
