If you lived in New York City in the summer of 1986, there was no way to escape "Summertime, Summertime."
Co-written and performed by Italian-born singer, Maria Nocera, the single blasted out of boomboxes from Staten Island to Queens. One of the most well-known singles of the original Latin freestyle era (more on that another day), "Summertime, Summertime" reached #2 on Billboard's Hot Dance/Club Play chart in 1986. Featuring an irresistible keyboard melody and a born for radio kind of chorus, even Nocera's thin vocals can't get in the way of the track's infectiousness.
Nocera never released another single as great as "Summertime, Summertime," but she still tours across the States, appearing on freestyle festivals on the same bill with artists such as Exposé, George Lamond and Stevie B. That's a testament to the lasting power of "Summertime, Summertime."
