Rhythm of Fear can hold a clinic on how to produce high-quality crossover thrash. Throughout the years, the Jacksonville, Florida quartet has gone from strength to strength, growing their discography with a pair of EPs (2015's Mass Illusion and 2019's Ritual Dementia), and their full-length debut album, Maze of Confusion (2016).
“Sanctuary, Sacrifice, Midas Touch, I could go on and on,” vocalist Jay Santiago says when asked about Rhythm of Fear's direct metallic influences. “Of course, there are the Big 4 bands everybody gravitates toward, but we tend to go for the stuff not as many people know.”
The groove aspect of Rhythm of Fear's sound is also important, which makes sense since I caught the band backing Eddie Sutton on a Leeway run a few years back in Los Angeles.
Now, the group is gearing up for the release of Fatal Horizons, their ominously titled sophomore album. Produced, engineered, and mixed by Joey Jones (Royal Thunder, Cloak) with sci-fi/horror artwork from Mario Lopez (Toxik, Skeletal Remains), the 13-track collection won't be out till next month, but No Echo got the jump on "Insidious System" from the record below fer ya:
Rhythm of Fear singer Jay Santiago said this about the track:
“'Insidious System' is about the corrupt system that we have appointed to protect us. A system that should serve and protect but instead enforces and collects. A system that thrives off of fear and manipulation. A system that infringes on our basic human rights. It’s been going on for so long and we can only hope that the more people realize how poisonous it all is the better chance there is for change.”
