Talking Point: New Fort Collins Band Pens Emo & Post-Hardcore Hooks on Debut

Talking Point is a musical trio comprised of pals from the Colorado punk scene. "The three of us had been friends for years as our bands had played together in Fort Collins and Denver often, so the pieces fell into place perfectly," bassist Billy Fabrocini tells No Echo. "The three of us finally got together in 2022 but it wasn’t until 2023 that we decided to get serious and book shows/record music."

This is the part of the story where we tell you what Talking Point sound like, but let's let Billy break that down for us: "Collectively, we would say our sound falls in the realm of pop-punk, post-hardcore, and emo. As individuals, we’re the type of people to listen to an Integrity record and follow it up with Into It. Over It. So when it comes to writing songs, we try to incorporate effects like reverb and sustain to make these big powerful melodies while sneaking in elements like 2-step drum beat here and there."

For their debut live appearance, Talking Point went the surprise route according to Billy. "I had the pleasure of setting up the Fort Collins tour date for Moral Law last October with my buddy Miguel. As I was putting together a lineup, we all agreed that this would be a great first show that involved all our friends. We kept the information about Talking Point pretty low key so it was a lot of fun to see everyone’s reaction when they found out we weren’t some Turning Point Youth Crew rip off [laughs]."

"We have a ton of music written and are already game planning the next releases. In the meantime, we’ve begun tapping into the local non-hardcore scene to expand our horizons a bit. Between the Colorado and Wyoming scenes, there are so many truly incredible bands spanning all genres that we feel really lucky to be setting up plenty of different kinds of shows for 2024. I think southern Wyoming is an often overlooked gem and I hope to get more opportunities to go up there."

Billy is clearly bullish on the Colorado music scene right now when asked who else No Echo readers should be checking out:

"The list would be so long [laughs], but I’d have to say Wolfblitzer, Chainmace, Copper Teeth, Eyes of Salt, Time X Heist, Flower Language, Broken Record, Nearby Liars, Hotel WiFi, Moral Law, Origami Summer, Edith, Bitchflower, King Crawdad, and Mood Swing Misery to name a few.

"Any band looking to come through Colorado should absolutely hit up Miguel (on Instagram as @FrontRangeFury), he is the a local treasure!"
