Formed back in 2014, LUCA has organically developed their stylistic approach from their melodic hardcore origins to something altogether more sonically crushing.
The last time we heard from the Chicago band was 2019 when they dropped their Sink or Swim EP, which they toured in support of in earnest. Returning to Bricktop Recording in their Windy City homebase, LUCA got to work tracking new material. After the COVID shutdown threw a wrench in their release plans, the group decided to issue the three singles in a series of interconnected music videos.
Capturing the internal struggles the band members experienced throughout the pandemic, the series comes to its end via "Undertow," a colorful clip that No Echo is pleased to premiere for you today:
“'Undertow' is a song about struggling with dissociation/negative thoughts and the weight that these feelings can carry," LUCA guitarist Nick Hopp tells No Echo. "It explores the feelings of hopelessness and confinement that mental illness produces especially when you're at your lowest—as emphasized in the video.
"This video is the third in a series of three interconnected scenes. Everything was filmed in-house by the band with the help of some friends. Recorded/Mixed by Pete Grossmann at Bricktop Recording. Mastered by Brad Boatright at Audiosiege.”
