Khlysty: Richmond, Virginia Death Metal Band Serves Up Delicious Riffs on New Tracks

Khlysty is a musical trio birthed by former members of Heavens Die. When it comes to their songwriting approach, the Richmond, Virginia-based band creates a sonic space where Wolverine Blues-era Entombed and '90s Florida death metal rule the air.

But over anything else, the emphasis in the Khlysty sound is on the riff arsenal laid out by guitarist Nathan Billmyer and bassist/vocalist Danny Prock. Drummer Alic Sloat holds the maelstrom down with expert ease.

Making their debut in 2020 through their "How You Want" single, Khlysty went on to drop a demo the year later, and is now returning with a 2-song summer promo. This material is their sickest yet, doing their influences justice, and forging their own voice along the way.

Sink your fangs into this riff feast I lay before you:

“We have influences in mind while writing, but a lot of instrumentation is worked out at practice between the three of us," bassist/vocalist Danny Prock wrote No Echo about the new tracks.

"Some riffs are written on the spot and beaten into shape with more rehearsing. I like the idea of letting the sound flesh itself out as much as possible. All the art and lyrics are stylized in homage to '80s horror movies and devil music. Whatever inspired the Satanic Panic inspires the look and tone.”

Summer 2020 Promo will be available on cassette via Raven Records Archive.
